Wednesday 13th June at 5pm Lady Claire MacDonald will give a Food Demonstration using the fabulous ingredients local to Skye.
‘Awareness of attaining the best cooking throughout Scotland through buying from and supporting local food producers really began here in Skye and Lochalsh. It began when the Skye and Lochalsh Horticultural Association sent invitations to all hoteliers and restaurants in the district to attend their A.G.M. I was the only one who took up the invitation, and there I made useful contacts with growers from whom Kinloch bought produce. And so it went on!
There is nothing as important as food to bring people to a locality. Top quality food doesn’t necessarily mean top prices, nor fine dining – a plate of vegetable and lentil soup and a freshly baked cheese scone can be top quality every bit as much as the superb food to be found, for example, at our Kinloch Lodge, or at MichaelSmith’s wonderful Loch Bay restaurant at Stein, to give just two examples.
Skye and Lochalsh abounds in excellent places to eat. And also excellent places to buy local foods – for example, the shop at An Crubh, in Sleat.
This week of celebrating the food in Skye and Lochalsh is such an important focus, not only for our district but for Scotland as a country. We have so much to be very proud of. This week of our Food Festival lets us demonstrate to our visitors as well as our local residents just why!’
